ThomasK Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Hi everyone, I´m living in Europe and started leatherworking two years ago. I still have Problems with a lot of things. I didn`t find someone in Europe where I can learn more about leathercrafting. So we planed to come to USA next Year. About this trip I have some questions: I dont know anyone, and I dont know who is a good teacher for me. What is a good time to visit the USA? Is it interesting to visit one of the leather trading Shows? How long should I stay? I mean are three weeks enough for a course or is it too Long? I would be very happy about a couple of answers. Greetings Thomas
hornm Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Rene Berends is in Diesenhofen,Bayern. Or thats is where his gallery is at least. He does a lot of teaching. http://www.beargallery.de/ Basically any of the trade shows here in the states will have classes. Anything from 1 hour sessions, one on one with a pro or classes for various projects up to 3 days depending on what the project is. So... what do you think of Feuerschwanz?? Bob Blea Report post Posted June 10, 2013 Thomas, I can recommend visiting either of the trade shows put on by the Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal: http://leathercraftersjournal.com/tradeshows.html I have taken classes the past few years at the Sheridan show and found them very helpful. They have many options for classes on different specialties by some of the best in the business. Bob
hornm Report post Posted June 11, 2013 They are a Mittelalter band from Erlangen(?) I was wondering if you had heard of them and if so what you thought. Sorry for the confusion. And +1 to Bob's post with the Leather Crafters link for the 2 bigger/biggest(?) shows here in the states. Michael
NVLeatherWorx Report post Posted June 11, 2013 If I was still living there I would be glad to help you out. I lived in a small village just North of Erlangen for over 14 years. Eventually had to return home (here in the U.S.) as Uncle Sam needed me elsewhere. If you can get into The Bear Gallery, do so. It is a sight to see. If you make the trip to the States then make it a point to try and schedule it around the major trade shows, especially the Sheridan show. Good luck and good tooling.
