WScott Report post Posted July 4, 2013 The Culprit and her bad influence friend, Wilbur the farting hedgehog The crime The joys of dog ownership. Luckily just a simple bookmark was harmed in this crime It could have been worse; considering making her into a rug or vest now that she has the taste for leather Darn dog

RiverCity Report post Posted July 4, 2013 Now see, my dog is helpful. She finds any rivets that I drop, and leaves them all over the living room carpet to step on barefoot. Chuck
benlilly1 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 Awe, she looks sweet...she just loves your leatherwork! Give her some of her own scraps of leather. I do that for my dog Ernie.

They do look alike Fortunately she is scared of the deep dark scary workshop as is only 7 months old... so lots of time to learn rivet distribution and tool stealing. TomG Report post Posted July 5, 2013 Yeah.. After I posted, I wondered if she had a tail. Berners and Aussies do look alike.. Especially when the Berner is a puppy. These guys were my inspiration for doing dog collars <g>.....
benlilly1 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 TomG, They are beautiful!
TomG Report post Posted July 5, 2013 Thanks... We have owned a total of 6 Aussies over the past 13 years. Lost a couple early. These guys range from 4 to 13. My wife does agility with them.. well, only the youngest now. I like your Corgi... I assume you make your own collars? Also, I thought veg tan was bad for dogs... I know they love rawhide... A could be wrong about the VT though.. wouldn't be the first time <g>
benlilly1 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 Ernie is too strong for my collars to withstand. For a little guy you wouldn't believe his strength! Corgi's life span is around 14ish. He's a wild man! I didn't know veg tan was bad...he likes his rawhide the best anyway.
TomG Report post Posted July 5, 2013 I'm not 100% sure it is bad for them.. Just recall hearing out digestion issue??? What are you making your collars out of that can't withstand him???
benlilly1 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 I've only made him one and that was 8oz. leather with rivets. He lunges frequently on his leash and I'm afraid the rivets will come apart. He now wears a nylon heavy duty collar. I have a Tippmann now but haven't tried making a collar with it yet.
TomG Report post Posted July 5, 2013 then try Chicago screws with a dab of Loctite or superglue on the threads.. Or copper rivets...Doubt if he'll bust either of those.... I'm jealous of your Tippman <g>... I have an old Singer 111W155 that works well, within it's limits, but I seldom use it cause I haven't had a lot of time to learn to sew straight <G>. I need a "real" guide for it instead of the little "T" shaped thing. But so far the only one I've found comes from Korea, I think, and from what I understand requires drilling and tapping holes to mount it. Haven't wanted to expend the effort right now <g>... Gump Report post Posted July 6, 2013 TomG; My old 111w155 sews a perfectly straight line if I feed the leather at a slight angle. If I try to feed it straight, it will pull to one side. Same pull with right or left toe.
shtoink Report post Posted July 6, 2013 I have two of those.... They like to "help" out at time, as well. I had a wooden swivel knife that had been recently finsihed get chewed up by them the one time. We were out running errands and had to run into someplace for a few minutes, so I left it up on the dash of the car. Rather close to the windshield, I might add, so it took a bit of work to get to it. I suspect it was the bigger one that originally pulled it down and then they shared the new "toy" after that point. I was not very happy about that incident, to say the least. It's a good thing that it was only bookmark and not a big project you were working on for someone. I now have my servo motor turned down so far, it's almost doing a single stitch mode.
WScott Report post Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) Hmmm maybe we need a "show us your dog" thread I had to button stitch a new nose on Wilbur today and she chewed some wood trim downstairs...ahh the preteen years of doghood Edited July 7, 2013 by WScott
lwm803 Report post Posted July 7, 2013 This is my best friend Bruno, I call him Bruno the Wonder Dog, mostly because he is always wondering about something. He has mostly grown out of his mischief years now but has been positively identified as an Excavator/Chipper Shredder mix. When he was a pup he ate my favorite welding cap, the patio carpet, the trim around the patio door.........you get the idea. Like most dogs he likes to shred sticks into pulp but his favorite sticks are freshly cut Crape Myrtle, preferably 12 to 14 feet long, he actually cuts these down himself. Leather (or wood) scraps on the floor of the shop are as good as gone when he comes to visit me out there.
