Members retiredff Posted January 3, 2015 Members Report Posted January 3, 2015 raw custom - I found serving thread, it seems to be made of fishing line material and is round. The largest size was .031". Have you used this? Quote
rawcustom Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Here is one I have used: http://www.3riversarchery.com/Brownell+Crown+Serving+Material_i5148X_baseitem.html And another I have dealt with: http://www.3riversarchery.com/BCY+Halo+Serving+Material_i8626X_baseitem.html There are plenty that would work, all braided and different sizes and colors available. http://www.3riversarchery.com/BCY+62+Braided+Center+Serving+Material_i8625X_baseitem.html http://www.3riversarchery.com/Brownell+Nylon+Serving+Material_i4146X_baseitem.html http://www.3riversarchery.com/Brownell+Fast+Flight+Serving+Material_i5146_baseitem.html Quote
Members pgivens Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 That stuff looks nice, but at $30 for a 65 yard spool that is not really a viable option. I finally pulled the trigger and placed an order with Abbey England for a few spools of Tiger Thread. I've never used it before, so I hope it's worth the hype! Truthfully, though, it's not any more expensive than Maine Thread. I just had to buy larger quantities than I'm used to buying. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted January 5, 2015 Members Report Posted January 5, 2015 I just stumbled over this AMAN SERABRAID thread: http://www.amann.com/en/produkte/serabraid/ I have not used it or heard of it before - maybe a new product but AMAN is well known for high quality thread. Quote

It's been around for awhile it didn't come in as many colours as Tiger but looks like they are starting to do some more now, the braid also isn't quite as tight as Tiger but it's still a very nice thread. Members ramrod Posted January 8, 2015 Members Report Posted January 8, 2015 i recall seeing serving thread a long time ago when a friend was into archery. i didn't realize that's what it was. and it's spectra, too. i have some on that on a small bobbin. you can barely cut it with scissors. i guess it's the storngest man made material - at least it was at one time. the only drawback with it is that it doesn't stretch. it'll cut through your leather fast if you horse on it.
