farmersracer Report post Posted September 24, 2013 Hello all. Have any one seen a pippin punch with two holes? One hole in each end. Does it have a special name, have you tips of a supplier, and where? Looks like this: O-----O Thanks for all tips Lars Gustavsson info@farmersracer.com
Hammerlauch Report post Posted October 29, 2013 Hi Lars. The double pippen punch was used for making a slit with a round hole at each end for locking straps on luggage and gun cases. After bucking the strap, the slit would be pulled over a d-ring( the bars of which would poke out of the strap through the round holes) that you could put a padlock on.I've seen this on leg o' mutton cases.I've got two by Joseph Dixon. They are 1" and 1 1/4" between the holes. I don't think they're made anymore, but you could check with Dixon. Cheers(sorry, SKOL), Sean.
petersenj20 Report post Posted October 31, 2013 Seems a double end would be much more limiting than a single hole based solely on size. That would be a trick to find in the size you need. Maybe make one? What size do you need?

Tannin Report post Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) Or simply punch 2 holes & cut between them with a craft knife or wood chisel. More work & only as consistent as the craftsman tho' It's a pity Pippen punches and Pippin plier punches are expensive & hard to come by. I wonder if the Chinese leather tool makers will get round to producing some - they seem to make many/most leather tools now, including a wide variety of punches but I have yet to see a Chinese Pippin punch. They'd probably end up selling on ebay for a couple of dollars! Edited May 18, 2016 by Tannin
Tannin Report post Posted May 18, 2016 Hmm, I just found a Pippin punch on Amazon by Tandy that is much cheaper than the Osbourne ones I normally see (~ a third of the price) - but they call it a "button hole punch": http://amzn.to/1NysXiQ They also show a handy size chart:
