Double Pippin Punch?

Hello all.

Have any one seen a pippin punch with two holes? One hole in each end. Does it have a special name, have you tips of a supplier, and where?

Hi Lars. The double pippen punch was used for making a slit with a round hole at each end for locking straps on luggage and gun cases.After bucking the strap,the slit would be pulled over a d-ring( the bars of which would poke out of the strap through the round holes) that you could put a padlock on.I've seen this on leg o' mutton cases.I've got two by Joseph Dixon.They are 1" and 1 1/4" between the holes. I don't think they're made anymore,but you could check with Dixon. Cheers(sorry, SKOL), Sean.

Seems a double end would be much more limiting than a single hole based solely on size. That would be a trick to find in the size you need. Maybe make one? What size do you need?

Sorry don't know where you can get one like that, but do you have a single Pippen punch? if so have you tried to

punch one hole and then line it up opposite and punch the other hole. if you have and it didn't work sorry i suggested it.

Or simply punch 2 holes & cut between them with a craft knife or wood chisel.  More work & only as consistent as the craftsman tho'

It's a pity Pippen punches and Pippin plier punches are expensive & hard to come by.  I wonder if the Chinese leather tool makers will get round to producing some - they seem to make many/most leather tools now, including a wide variety of punches but I have yet to see a Chinese Pippin punch.  They'd probably end up selling on ebay for a couple of dollars!

Hmm, I just found a Pippin punch on Amazon by Tandy that is much cheaper than the Osbourne ones I normally see (~ a third of the price) - but they call it a "button hole punch": http://amzn.to/1NysXiQ They also show a handy size chart:
