Light Decorations On Dark Leather

Hi to all!

Ok, the title is not of the best, but I had no other words to explain my problem...

That's simple: I would like to obtain decorations similar to the border on this purse: http://www.leofficinecreative.com/la_bottega_itinerante/img_cuoio/borse/borsa_cuoio_26.jpg

and, generally speaking, how to achieve a similar result, with decorations lighter than leather's color, without using leather colors...is it possible?

You have to paint on a block out or resist to the areas you don't want dark prior to applying the dye.

Would it give you the same effect if you dye the leather and THEN carve into it???
