Mojo66 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 I've had a request from a customer to make a guitar strap similar to the Waylon Jennings one, ie. black with white tooling, the black isn't a problem, but does anyone know how to get the white? All the stains I've found are mainly various shades of tan, I've had mixed results with acrylic paints and as the strap will need to flex I'm not too sure about using them for this project. Something similar to this would be good. Leather is expensive and I don't want to waste lots of time an money making a hash of it! I'll be using 3mm veg tan. Thanks. http://www.telecaste.../normal_003.JPG
Sturme Report post Posted October 24, 2013 Your best bet is a white acrylic paint. and put a clear sealer coat over the white, you might need multiple coats of the sealer to maintain the white though http://springfieldleather.com/23140/Paint%2CAngelus-White-1oz/ http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/2602-08.aspx http://springfieldleather.com/23135/Paint%2CWhite%2C2oz/
Cyberthrasher Report post Posted October 24, 2013 White acrylic is really all you have. Just be sure to thin it and don't apply heavily and it will be fine.
Mojo66 Report post Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the replies, I'll see if I can persuade him to have it in tan and black, if not I'll have to go with the acrylic. Edited October 27, 2013 by Mojo66
Tree Reaper Report post Posted October 27, 2013 You could use a 3 oz. white underlay under the black carved letters.
OdinUK Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Createx airbrush paints are very good. I would apply it in a few thin coats with an airbrush if you have one.
