Members Double U Leather Posted November 10, 2013 Author Members Report Posted November 10, 2013 Wow.......thanks again everyone for your comments. As I said before, I'm truly humbled. Keable......I don't know about being too humble. I do know that I've been give a gift, and considering what a schmuck I've been for a lot of my life, I better not get too cocky thinking that I'm all that and a bag of chips. All I need to do to remain humble is look at some of the masters, and realize I'm still light years away from there. I will agree, that I may have to start charging a bit more or start working faster.....lol. Zoomer....I don't know if you can see the maker's mark or not, but it's in the San Marcos border on the backside of the briefcase. Thanks again gang for your kind words. Stay blessed. Quote
Members Akhenaten Posted November 11, 2013 Members Report Posted November 11, 2013 That case is so awesome! I'm working on a purse and would like to do those straight lines. Can someone point me in the direction of how to do that? They don't seem to be from a swivel knife because they lay flat. Stumped... Quote
Members Double U Leather Posted November 11, 2013 Author Members Report Posted November 11, 2013 I'm not sure which straight lines you're talking about, but if it's the black ones around the border, those are done with a beader blade. Hope that helps. Quote
Members Akhenaten Posted November 11, 2013 Members Report Posted November 11, 2013 I'm talking about the 45 degree grid lines in image 2. Quote
Members Akhenaten Posted November 11, 2013 Members Report Posted November 11, 2013 So after researching that name I realized I had already purchased one as a stitching grover, but never tried it. I tried it out tonight and got the result I was looking for. Thank you for the pointer. Quote
Members Double U Leather Posted November 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted November 12, 2013 Akhenaten....sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. That quilt pattern as I call it, is done by using a wing divider to mark the lines, cut the lines with a hollow ground blade swivel knife, and then a seeder at every intersection. Hope that helps, but if you've found something that works for you, way to go. Be blessed. Quote
Chief31794 Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Double U, As usual, I'm amazed. This is absolutely first rate, excellent quality in the construction, carving and design. Love the light color touches, never liked the full color much but using blue for highlights on flowers etc is just the right amount and the product screams elegance. Members vmaniqui Posted November 14, 2013 Members Report Posted November 14, 2013 Beautiful. How I wish I have that talent. I am new at leather crafting and I am surely seeing so many nice works and many talented people here. I hope I could at least be able to absorbed even 10% of what you guys got. Quote
Members Double U Leather Posted November 15, 2013 Author Members Report Posted November 15, 2013 Dang.........thanks for the nice words. I'm honored to have my peers think highly of my work. Chief....your words really mean a lot to me, especially the elegance part. That is exactly what I was going for. Not gaudy, not over the top, but functional and artistically appealing. Vman....just hang in there. If you could only see some of my early stuff....LOL. Like anything else, it just takes time and practice. The more time spent, the better the result. Quote
Members RogerNixon Posted November 15, 2013 Members Report Posted November 15, 2013 Excellent work on the case. You have every right to be proud of that I really like your attitude! Quote
