forbeskm Report post Posted November 8, 2013 I finally have my used Singer Post Bed 51w54 from Nick-O Sew all setup and happy. I am almost ready to try my hand at men's hiking boots. I may add on a speed reducer though at the moment the servo works quite nicely. Does anyone know how to tell how old a Singer is?
Ken G Report post Posted November 9, 2013 Singer serial number list: http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-sewing-machine-serial-number-database.html
forbeskm Report post Posted November 9, 2013 Thanks, I didn't find my serial there (starts with W736) but I found http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers/single-letter which shows single letter starting with W for 1911. I thought the 51w54 was from the 50's.
J Hayes Report post Posted November 9, 2013 I think the industrial machines are different in the serial numbers than the domestic machines. I don't think they kept track of the industrial machines.

dikman Report post Posted March 12, 2018 The W machines were made in the USA, at the Bridgeport plant, and the story goes that all their records were destroyed in a fire a long time ago. I've been unable to find any info regarding serial numbers on W machines so I figure the story is probably true.

MVD535 Report post Posted August 10, 2023 Hello CRFIREMECH, I know have been passed too many time since 2018, but I would like to try to contact you anyway because I am about to get the same buty you got, the 51W54. The one I want has the TIMING BELT broken, and after one month, I found here the 234003 P/N which I believe is the right part. This belt has 62 teeth cleats and it has 234003 P/N stamped on it. Could you confirm if this P/N is the correct one?, I appreciated very much in advance your answer.

I have a singer post sewing machine 51w54 and doesn’t look nothing like that. If it is indeed a 51w54 then it looks to be missing some parts in front like the bottom thread roller and the felt pad retainer finger.

The 51w came in 2 types and the earlier type looked a bit different and is based on a Wheeler & Wilson design. This is how the earlier type looks like: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/86292-singer-51w-sv-2-post-bed-machine-restoration/?do=findComment&comment=586639 https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/86292-singer-51w-sv-2-post-bed-machine-restoration/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-685902 Edited April 23 by Constabulary
