New Briefcase

Hi folks,

Here is a recently completed 16” x 11” x 4” double gusset, lock and hasp briefcase. The interior is lined with a micro suede fabric and has 3 mini pockets. The back has an exterior zippered pocket for a 13” Mac Book Air. It also has a bottom cross stitched handle, a shoulder strap and pad, and a set of brass feet.

Wow! That came out beautiful! I love the overall design and like that you spent a fair amount of time on the details (lining, brass feet, bound edges). I also like the zippered back pocket... something I may consider doing on mine too.

Thanks, green barn. The customers input drove some of the functional design aspects - interior pockets and zippered back. Stick with journey, it's worth the effort!

Questions: What kind of leather did you use ?

How did you sew it ?

Are those " sam browne" buttons you used for the 4 bottom feet ?

Again, That case is a ONE OF A KIND !

Thanks for the kind words craftsman827! The leather is a 7oz retanned leather. It has an interesting smoked finish which changes depending on the lighting. All hand stitched, and yes, those are Sam Browne buttons. I just like them better than the traditional brass feet they sell for bags. Those cone shaped jobbers just don't do it for me. I have another similar case, a single gusset design that I made out of football leather. I'll see if I can dig up a photo and post it.

Thanks, the edges took time. First I cut 3/8" strips from the same leather. Next, I beveled, dyed and burnished the edges. Then, I clipped it in place with binder clips and marked and punched the holes. Attached it by glueing and stitching. Finished it with resolene and paraffin wax. Then I collapsed!

Nice finish on the briefcase, I really like the 'feet' idea on the bottom - pretty smart
