I was given a piece of leather to practice on. It has been sitting around for quite a while. Is there anything I should do to it before practicing on it?

Thanks

You can tool it but when done put a coat of neatsfoot oil on it prior to finishing.

Allow the oil to dry at least 24 hours before finishing.

I see you are new. Are you tooling? Do you know there are differant kinds of leather, they do not interchange when tooling.

Hi Electrathon. Yup I'm a total nubie...I am going to use this leather to practice stamping and tooling. It was free so I literally have nothing to lose...LOL.

I have no idea what this leather is...it's really dry and cracks quite easily when I bend it. Oh well...I'm learning.
