Looking For A Leather Worker

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

We are looking to hire 1-3 leather craftsmen to assemble wallets and bags for our new apparel company. All pieces will be cut and partially assembled, delivered to the craftsman, where they would be assembled to nearly their final state.

All the leather used would be of very high quality, so completed work would be expected to be as commercially appealing as possible. The company is going for funding for the launch of our leather line, so we are unsure of the exact amount of completed items needed for the beginning. A little over a month from now is when we will be able to know for sure. Initial quantity can range anywhere from 20-2,000 pieces, depending on how much funding is raised. The more items that need to be completed, the more workers we will need.

In terms of payment:

For those we choose, we will supply each individual with an entire set of tools from Tandy, approx $300 total. All the tools will be individually chosen, no "starter kits". Each person will have some say in what tools they would prefer, to complete the tasks at hand. On top of supplying each of our craftsmen with all the workshop tools needed, we will pay on a "per piece" basis, which would be negotiated later.

We are Southern California based and would love to find someone local, but we are open to anyone inside the Continental US. Over 18 and Legal Resident.

You can post images and info if your work on this thread, contact us via message on this forum, or email us at Office.ImageCo@gmail.com

Once we have chosen and negotiated a price, we will send all the necessary documentation to begin work.

Thanks!

I'm curious why you plan on supplying tools to experienced craftsmen.

I have the same question as dbusarow and why would you expect experienced craftsman to want to be fully equipped with Tandy tools? If a experienced craftsman is already fully equipped and does not need Tandy tools what compensation would you be offering then?

Simply an additional incentive for those who need new equipment. These are questions that would essentially be expressed when a person is negotiating pricing, certainly not a reason to discourage people from participating.

I can't believe Tandy tools would be an incentive to any experienced leather worker.

I'm only an intermediate leathercrafter and even I don't want anything to do with Tandy tools...I agree with Chief...

If they buy everyone they hire the same basic tools, Edgers, gouges, Needles, etc then all the product will look closer to the same. If one person uses a keen edger #3 and and another person uses a regular Tandy edger #3 the edges wont look the same. While the choice of where to get the tools is poor the concept of everyone working with the same tools makes sense.
