joeyrsmith Report post Posted January 5, 2014 Guys and Dolls, After adjusting the stitch length this afternoon, I have had some strange and spooky haunted things happen. Has anyone had their machine go "out of time" Dont know if thats the right term. My hook was 180 degrees off until I hit the button again to adjust the stitch a little which made it come back to proper position. Then it started to fray the thread and create birdsnest. Frustrating considering I was sewing great all morning. Kept trying to adjust stitch length with very weird and haunted effects. Then after 3-4 times it broke a needle. Titled it up to take hard long look and decided to give it a break becuz football playoffs started. Any ideas on how to rid it of demons? Joey Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

joeyrsmith Report post Posted January 5, 2014 CD, using the manual, I am pressing the button one the deck. It says to wait until it drops then turn until stitch length is set. Lifting machine I see it the pin drops into a cutout on a wheel which keeps the hook from moving. After that I do not know what happens. I do not see a clutch reset button. Sometimes when I have the button depressed and start turning for the length I here another "pop or heavy click sound" After I release the deck button it allows the hook to rotate. I had to do this a bunch of times before the needle and hook were in synchronization again. This morning it seems all good. But I want to know this machine for I will keep it a long time I think. I was worried last night that the hook/needle timing was off, because of the way the needle was dropping and the way the hook was going by. oltoot Report post Posted January 5, 2014 I got mine new in 1976. It was haunted for about 2 yrs. I guess the ghosts finally figured out I wasn't gonna give up and they did. I did get a MM manual with mine. It is for about 6 different models and instructions are more often than not pick from a list. And things got a lot easier after I accumulated a set of tools that would reach into places without having to block my view with my hands (long T allen wrenches, long screwdrivers, short screwdiver, 90 degree screwdiver). pcox Report post Posted January 5, 2014 I think some of you are thinking a 111w and a 211g are the same this not so the 211 only has 1 button in the bed. It adjust stitch length and resetting of the clutch. The clutch is also different on the 211. It is indexed by 3 balls and springs between a hub and shell that makes up the clutch instead of the lever and dog on the 111 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

pcox Report post Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) you can snug up the clutch action by removing the outer screws and tightening the inner screws a little at a time till you get the setting you want then replace the outer screws to lock the setting. If you tighten too much you will not have any safety clutch protection so go easy. I posted some pictures on your other thread, hope they help Use a padded vise grip to hold the lower shaft and see if you can turn the hand wheel. It should turn with some effort. You may need to spray the stitch adj. unit with some penetrating oil as it may be turning too hard. You always will have to readjust stitch length after you need to reset the clutch, but you should not have to re set the clutch after stitch length change. pcox Report post Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) I just went and checked mine. I used a leather padded visegrip to hold the lower shaft and can turn the hand wheel with some effort.
