First True Sheridan/western Floral Drawing

Recommended Posts

So I got it in my head a couple weeks ago that I want to "master" western floral / Sheridan style.

Here's my first real attempt at an original pattern for a woman's headband.

Critiquing is welcome. I have already noticed some areas I can redo. The red is just to help separate background from foreground. Drawn first in my sketchbook, then doubled and reversed on tracing paper to make the final pattern.

1. Much more open background than is usually seen in Sheridan work.

2. Need to tie big flower in better. Lack of cotinuity in flow there.

3. Need more uniformity in size of leafs. Goes from coarse to fine, and then back to coarse.

Yeah I noticed the big flower "flow" problem as soon as I put the two pieces together. Not sure I understand what you are meaning with the "coarse to fine and back to coarse" on the leaves though?

I'm redrawing this pattern as we speak, but your input is still appreciated!

Just curious how the redrawing worked out, and also what kind of headband did this turn out to be? Is it something she would wear in her hair like a barrette?

I couldn't find the finished drawing on my phone, but I did find these three I had antiqued. This was before I learned a really neat trick from a Japanese guy for antiquing that has really taken my antiquing to the next level. But at least you can see the finished pattern in the photo haha

Those do look cool. How does the woman wear them?
