Which Speed Reducer To Use

Hello all I have a Techsew 2700 with a servo motor. When I slow the motor down I have issues getting through thicker leather but when I increase speed I can sew it no problem but lose control.

My questions

If I install a speed reducer can I leave the speed set to high on the motor and slow the needle speed down but keep the force to sew the thicker leather?

I have seen different size reducers 3"/6"/9" or the 2"/6" I think I want the slowest needle speed with highest torque.

Any insight here would be great.

The 3-6-9 should do the trick. It gives you two output pulley/reduction options. Either will cause you to increase the top speed setting, yielding higher low speed torque.

Hi jayjay, we have a speed reducer we use on the Techsew 2700 machines upon request, it'll help you get through the thicker leather at slow speeds.

Installation requires increasing the size of the belt slot with a router or hand saw, mounting the reducer to the bottom of the table and attaching a belt. we can send you instructions if you need.

I have the speed reducer on my 2700, factory installed at Techsew. I find it really helps with the thicker veg-tan projects. The only trouble that I have is that sometimes I wish it was would sew faster. But what do I expect with a speed reducer.

You can bypass the reducer with a longer belt from the motor to the machine, for higher speeds.

You can turn up the speed on the motor, or like Wiz said you can bypass the reducer by making the direct belt connection between the motor and machine.

I'm in the same boat here, but have a singer 211 G 155 walking foot machine. Need to get the sped reducer thing happening ASAP. My question is, do new belts come with the assembly, or is that something we are left up to. Also, if we need to source, what is the best way to determine the size (length) of the belt we need? Thanks, and apologies if I'm asking silly obvious questions - brand new to this machine and sewing in general.
