GrampaJoel Report post Posted March 18, 2014 If you're willing to share, what are you coating your rawhide with as a finish? Is it a Lacquer?
LTC Report post Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) do you bevel your rawhide and roo lace? If so, what angle do you use? is it the same for both? what size strings did you use? sorry for all the questions just eager to learn and your work looks very nice. oh and what do you use under your knots to give them the right shape? i read some use tape is that what you use or do you use something else? thanks and sorry again for all the questions. Feraud Report post Posted March 18, 2014 Gorgeous work!
Leatherpownder Report post Posted March 19, 2014 Joel - Skidmores waterproofing, it's a bees wax mixture, more of a dressing. LTC - the leather is beveled on the flesh side 45 degrees, and the rawhide is beveled on the hair side. I bevel the really small string by hand with a knife. I posted some pics of that a while back so you may be able to find those on this forum. I cut the leather 1/8" and the rawhide is 5/64". Under the small buttons id a four strand ring knot and the under long button is a leather collar. The body looks like two strands but is two 4 strands braided together so it is a solid piece. GrampaJoel Report post Posted March 19, 2014 Thanks for the info. That finish on the rawhide almost looks crystalline. So how is that double four strand braided? I've looked for this pattern for some time now without any luck, so I'm tossing my pride aside and asking outright. Is it from a book? Thanks Joel
Leatherpownder Report post Posted March 22, 2014 Hard to explain Joel, this braid can be found in Enrique Capone's braiding manuals. These are excellent references.
Sovran81 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 @Leatherpownder. Thanks for the reference. I had never seen those books, but now have them added to the want list after finding them here http://www.leather-braiding.com/english.htm I started knot tying way too late. So many knots I want to tie,
