DavidL Report post Posted April 19, 2014 Previously i used angelus dye and its worked well with no uneven colour. Im using the fiebings pro dye in blue and the colour is a solid blue, but there are darker spots and streaks. If i soak the leather in water for 10 minutes to take off the excessive dye a lot of dye soaks off and the colour turns to purple. The bottle was stirred and I can't get the colour to stay even - i also noticed the dye doesn't soak in fast like angelus. For the colour dyes i have - red and blue the labels are some sort of printer paper with adhesive at the back and the black and brown are a sort of glossy paper, is that normal for fiebings? cem Report post Posted April 20, 2014 I use a lot of the oil dye blue and generally thin it down some before using it I also airbrush it on. The purple would be a normal colour occurrance for the blue all leather dyes drop colour after being soaked in water it's better to thin the dye first as soaking in water will cause unexpected colours. The Fiebings oil dye has labels like this http://shop.fiebing.com/c/leathercraft_dyes_professional-oil-dye if yours don't they may been rebottled from larger containers, all the Fiebings oil dye I have bought has had glossy yellow labels where did you buy yours from ? DavidL Report post Posted April 20, 2014 Zack White. The bottle is the quart version and the coloured bottles are paper labeled and the black and brown are with the glossy paper. They may have just took there store label dye, put it in a bottle and added the fiebings paper label. Il have to contact fiebings and ask them this if they actually did do this, that is some petty trick and I'll just stop spending my money there and tell people to not shop there. I find a few companies send over some products knowing before hand that the product wasn't sellable, if they sold it to you face to face they wouldn't even dare showing it to you. Red Cent Report post Posted April 20, 2014 As a constant buyer of Zack White products, I would doubt that they would do this. Zack White is a major distributor/wholesaler and allows walk ins. I have purchased a number of bottles of dye, both the Pro and the regular and have never had a problem. Their shelves are loaded with Fiebling dye and other Fiebling products. They are located about 35-40 minutes away and I love to browse the store when I go.
DavidL Report post Posted April 20, 2014 Alright good to hear that they are reputable - although its odd they use regular paper instead of gloss paper because the difference in cost is pennies. I'd like to hear why they would use regular printer paper since it looks like a fake fiebings bottle.
cem Report post Posted April 21, 2014 I buy the quart bottles as well and all have had the glossy yellow labels. Are you able to put a picture up then someone might be able to say exactly if Fiebings did actually use a different type of paper at one time as some might have seen it before. papaw Report post Posted April 21, 2014 My best guess would be a label got damaged or fell off and they put the paper label on it to keep it marked.

BDAZ Report post Posted April 21, 2014 I have a number of these in stock. They are all professionally labeled with glossy paper labels. As someone who manufactures a liquid product, these bottles are professionally labeled and these labels are NOT going to come off . The labels are die cut with rounded corners. The dye is sold in a standard 1 quart "cylinder round" containers obtainable anywhere. So you may have counterfeit product, either decanted from larger sizes or not Feibings. Cya! DavidL Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Emailed fiebings and they replied saying that it is dye made for the Canadian market and is legitimate but is old stock. Im going to try sheepskin to dye my leather instead of a standard dauber. Thanks to everyone that replied.
