Rossr Report post Posted May 2, 2014 Hi Folks, Just thought I would post a few of the wet molded fly fishing chest packs I made. All are made of leather I know that is shocking. Ok all kidding aside I wet formed the leather and braided the straps out of leather lace. I went with braided because you can easily add all the accessories that fly fishers want like tipper holders(also included is a picture of a tippet holder I came up with out of leather lace), zingers, etc. Size on these guys runs 7" wide 1.5" deep and 4.5" tall Always looking to improve would love to hear some feedback. I have learned a lot reading on these forums. Thanks All Ross Einhorn Usa

Rossr Report post Posted May 5, 2014 I have to admit I am debating the braided too. Almost wonder if it cheapens the rest of it. It is functional for the add ons but hmmm food for thought. Thanks for the kind words guys Ross PS: fly fishing is fun I do all kinds of fishing... get your self a package rig and go out and try don't worry about looking like a pro just go have fun get some poppers and hit a local pond for bass and blue gills...lots of fun

karlpv Report post Posted May 7, 2014 Nicely done. I have a Wheatly that would be perfectly at home in one of those One comment . on your toggle closure system. I always seem to end up with flyline tangled around anything projecting like those.
Rossr Report post Posted May 7, 2014 Karl, I debated that. I have a leather pack I use that I put snaps on. problem with the snaps is if you don't have something inside it the snaps don't snap well. I have been trying to figure a better closure. Any thoughts??? Thanks for the kind words guys Ross
Razmot Report post Posted May 8, 2014 What about rare earth magnets to keep them closed.
Rossr Report post Posted May 12, 2014 raz, I played with the rare earth magnets but I haven't found a way I like to attach them so it looks pretty too. I don't have them lined inside and its veg tan leather....hmmm
karlpv Report post Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Hi Ross, I've been planning to build some small cases (if I ever get going), and don't care to use a snap closure either. One idea I've had is a stud and kehole, as was used on some older cases. They seem to have gone out of fashion, as I haven't found the hardware in a casual search of suppliers. Here's one used on an old compass case. I think I'd try skipping the keeper loop. They work quite well IME. Edit -forgot to add, this closure works very easily one handed, especially without the keeper loop. Edited May 14, 2014 by karlpv
ENC Report post Posted May 14, 2014 It is a slightly different shape of stud, but the function is the same and they come in several sizes. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/11311-02.aspx Ray
