StrigaMort Report post Posted May 2, 2014 ... a small spray bottle? You know, the kind we use to spray water. I was messing with my bottle the other day and noticed that it can spray a very fine mist when adjusted correctly. Anyone ever try this? Also, anyone ever try those disposable pre-vail (think that's what they are called) where the power unit is thrown away, but you keep the glass reservoir? How well do they work? Halitech Report post Posted July 4, 2014 can't say on the spray bottle, guess it would depend on the quality of the bottle I've used the preval sprayers and they are okay for a small job but generally I just grab my airbrush as I find I have more control with it
Colt W Knight Report post Posted July 5, 2014 That would make a terrible mess.
StrigaMort Report post Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I haven't tried it because I ended up buying the Preval and didn't really care for it. I figure if I don't like that, I won't like a spray bottle. Next stop is a full airbrush setup.
Northmount Report post Posted July 5, 2014 I tried using a spray bottle to apply some finish. I doesn't go on evenly, splatters big drops frequently ... So I would not attempt to use with dye. At least with the finish, I was able to use some sheep's wool to even it out. You can try trial runs of different spray applicators on a sheet of cardboard. Doesn't mess up good leather. Let's you see how even the results are. Also good for practising and adjusting your spray pattern before you hit the leather. Tom
Red Cent Report post Posted July 5, 2014 You can really go ch....inexpensive with an airbrush. At least it works well with holsters and belts. http://www.airbrushguru.com/choosing-the-right-airbrush.html
RiverCity Report post Posted July 6, 2014 Give it a go on some scrap. You will not achieve anything resembling an even color, but you might get a nice effect out of it. A lot of dyeing leather is trial and error. I do a mottled dye job sometimes that I stumbled on playing around, looks almost like marble. I would go to autozone or the like and get a car detailers spray bottle as it puts out a finer mist.
RavenAus Report post Posted July 6, 2014 I got a really good setup for AU$120, an airbrush compressor with airbrush and hose supplied. Works a charm https://www.tradetools.com/products/AS18CK I'm sure over there you'll have similar for less, prices down under are usually a lot higher
