tboyce Report post Posted May 28, 2014 I bought the delux leather splitter from Tandy the other day. Has anyone else purchased this? It seems unusually difficult to skive a piece of leather using this, not at all as easy as it appears on the video. Has anyone purchased one only to discover that the blade needed to be sharpened?http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/knives-cutters-splitters/3795-00.aspx
TomG Report post Posted May 28, 2014 Yeah, they are all that way from what I've read here. the only one from ANYONE that has been reported as sharp out of the box, is the one from Weaver, I believe. There was a thread about it recently.
WinterBear Report post Posted May 28, 2014 Anything from Tandy needs to be sharpened or at least stropped, including the razor blades.
tboyce Report post Posted May 28, 2014 you spend a few hundred bucks on a tool and you don't expect to have to strip it down and spend an hour honing the blade
mccottie Report post Posted May 28, 2014 I bought one, got a great deal from the store manager. BUT, it didn't work worth spa damn. Took the blade out and sharpened / stropped and it works pretty well up to 3" wide straps. I kept watching ebay, got a good deal on a nice 6" osborne splitter, man what a difference. Tandy tools are best to pass on and buy the good stuff.
