joeyrsmith Report post Posted June 1, 2014 Hi Gang, Been a little while, machine has been doing great all this time. Until today. Started to skip stitchs, upon inspection it looks like the timing is off a little. Got the manual out, and decided that I need to advance a little. When I loosen the set screws on (4) then try to tap gear left or right as per the manual, it does not seem to work right. I am guessing that the gear should spin on the shaft, it seems to move the shaft which in turn moves the needle bar. So, is it stuck? I nver have tried this procedure before. joeyrsmith Report post Posted June 1, 2014 Wiz, the screws on #5 are easily moved. Moving that gear still rotates #4 which still moves needle bar. Any ideas on getting #4 loose? Is this the right procedure for timing the hook point to the needle? I dont want to really throw it off. I am in the middle of a huge job right now. Constabulary Report post Posted June 1, 2014 The complete + correct procedure should be mentioned in the manual. A quick fix could be just moving the needle bar a little bit up or down (if the hook gears are all tight). The hook should meet the needle withing the scarf about 1.6mm above the eye. Wizcrafts Report post Posted June 1, 2014 What we have here is a failure to communicate. What I was trying to suggest to you was that after you loosen the set screws on the small worm gear that secures the hook shaft, you should be able to rotate the hook freely by hand. Nothing else should move underneath; not the worm gear, ring gear or any other shafts. Perhaps I mistook the location of those gears. I believed that they were under the hook. gottaknow Report post Posted June 2, 2014 You want to loosen screw #4 and the other screw on the gear that's mounted on the horizontal shaft. The hook shaft has a "V" in it so it won't slip out of time. With screw 4 and it's partner loose, you can tap the gear left and right to advance or retard your timing. I would check your timing marks on the needle bar before changing the hook timing though. It is far more likely your needle bar got pushed up while sewing which would make your hook come in late, making you think the timing needs to be advanced. joeyrsmith Report post Posted June 2, 2014 Thx Guys. Eric, glad I waited till morning and read your reply. I did indeed adjust the needle bar height to the correct level. Off by 1/32. Stitching good again. Glad I did not start messing with the gears. Was in the middle of a large canvas/leather job. Saved again by the Leatherworker Super-heros.
