thefanninator Report post Posted July 26, 2014 Horween Orion leather lined with French split goatskin, hand stitched with Lin Cable @ 9 spi, acrylic edge paint. I'm pretty happy with but I know there are some glaring mistakes. I need a smaller oval & round punch for the holes and a punch for the end of the strap. I also need to work on centering and spacing my holes correctly. I did this all today so yeah I rush a little too.
builderofstuff Report post Posted July 26, 2014 I like it. I've always wanted to make a watch band but never had any leather thin enough to do it. Chris

Hi Im Joe Report post Posted July 27, 2014 It looks really good! Nice job. How do you like the Orion? How's it feel?
thefanninator Report post Posted July 27, 2014 (edited) The Orion is the only Horween I've worked with. It's soft, smells great. Not quite sure how best to burnish it so I'm just sanding it a little and painting it. It doesn't burnish like veg tan. I have swatches of Essex & Chromexel and I think I'd prefer to work with one of them or atleast try them out. Thanks! Hi Im Joe Report post Posted July 27, 2014 I've worked with both essex and chromexcel. They are both very nice to work with. None of them really burnish like tooling leather. The essex is finished with oils and fats so it resists burnishing a bit...but not as bad as combination tanned leathers like chromexcel or the orion.
