Members Colt W Knight Posted August 4, 2014 Members Report Posted August 4, 2014 I am starting a new research project, and I need to make 30 GPS tracking collars for my PhD work. Anyone have a good source for buying some plain jane 1 1/2" belt buckles. These are going on cattle, so I need a sturdy buckle, however they need not be pretty. Regards, Colt Quote
Members billybopp Posted August 5, 2014 Members Report Posted August 5, 2014 Dang! Tracking cattle by GPS! What's the world coming to. When I was a kid, I managed to find where every damned cow in the herd had been if I was out hiking in my best new Nikes. Seriously tho, you might consider plastic buckles, and possibly nylon webbing. Both dirt cheap and sturdy. http://www.countrybrookdesign.com/webbing-and-hardware/buckles/plastic/buckles-plastic-duraflex-1-1-2-inch.html http://www.countrybrookdesign.com/webbing-and-hardware/polypropylene-webbing-polypro/1-5-inch-heavy/polypro-webbing-1-1-2-inch-heavy-black.html A bit over $50 for the whole lot. And possibly cheaper elsewhere. Otherwise, http://www.weaverleathersupply.com/Catalog/ItemContent.aspx?ItemNumber=1866&CatalogId=001&CatalogDetailId=10&NSM=Y @$0.70 apiece. Hope that helps! Bill I am not using the GPS collars to find cattle, I am using it tell exactly where they have been, their distance traveled per day, distance traveled from water, and elevation. Thanks for the buckle link. Quote
Members Colt W Knight Posted August 5, 2014 Author Members Report Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) Since those buckles were so cheap at Weaver, I went ahead and purchased some of those nice Master Tools oblong punches and strap end punches. Edited August 5, 2014 by Colt W Knight Quote
