Colt W Knight Report post Posted August 9, 2014 I am working on making a bunch of GPS tracking collars for cattle, and I realized that my economy punches and cutters weren't going to cut it when I start making 30 collars from heavy duty Latigo. I invested in some Weaver Master Tool brand Strap end cutter and Oblong punch. They are kind of pricey, but they were sharp out of the box, saved me a ton of time, and remained sharp even after using the tools to make 30 strap ends in 13 ounce leather. Very impressed with the 1 1'2" english point strap cutter. One whack with the maul, and I had a quick/clean end. and the oblong punch usually took two light smacks to get through the thick leather. Modad2010 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) I was glad to find this post because I was considering purchasing one of these. I bought a C.S. Osborne 1 1/2" EP punch and the edge rolled the 2nd or 3rd time I used it. I took it back to Springfield leather and they sent it back to Osborne to see if they would cover it on the warranty. Two and a half weeks later and still no word. Think I'm done buying Osborne. Just curious - is that a block of bee's wax you are putting the punch into before using it? Colt W Knight Report post Posted August 15, 2014 I have now used the Weaver Master Tool 1 1/2" EP punch over 60 times with heavy 13 ounce Latigo leather. It is still sharp, and shows no sign of wear. The 1" oblong punch came polished, and super sharp. I used it thirty times, and no signs of wear yet. Yes, that is a block of bees wax. Lubricating those punch ends makes it go a lot easier, and prevents smaller punches from getting stuck in the leather.
