First Minimal Rustic Wallet W/ Money Clip

Recommended Posts

Finished my first wallet over this weekend. Chrome tan leather, hand stitched and waxed with beeswax/oil mix. Holds up to 8 cards comfortably and about 10 bills.

What do you guys think?

Looks good!

How does the clip work? Also you may want to make the stitch centred for the card slot.

Thanks DavidL. The clip is a spring mechanism that clips money as you pull it down into place.

What do you mean have the stitch centered?

Its hard to explain but its a really simple change. the stitch from one card slot to the other, the"Connecting stitch" should be completely centred so that it is less likely to tear since the stitch is farther away from the edge or not in the middle of the card slots. Normally if the stitch is 4mm long per stitch then 2mm of the stitch would be on one card slot and the 2mm remaining length would be on the other card slot making the "connecting stitch" even.

Oh! okay I see what you're saying! the way I did this wallet is that it does not cross the end piece, but rather stays 1/4" away from the end (for looks). But yes, the one I will do that has transition, I will definitely do that.

Thanks!

Interesting, I've never seen this wallet design. Quite cool! I was looking through your photobucket gallery and saw your hole punch case. How on earth did you do that edging with the invisible stitch on the flap edge and inside edge? It looks awesome.

Thanks nrk, its very simple and Ive been liking it a lot. I have been using it since I've made it and its great. Love the money clip. Its finally useful and not its not adding bulk to the wallet. I used a scrap chrome tan leather that is around 3-4oz that I picked up at a local leather shop. The owner didn't know what it was exactly.

MonicaJacobson, the process for the edge of the punch case if pretty simple. You simply stitch the liner (face down) to the face of the leather, then apply contact cement on both ends, flip the lining carefully while stretching the edge line. See pictures below for reference.
