Messenger Beg Gusset Corners

Hey All:

I am making a messenger bag with a three part gusset, bottom and two sides. My questions regards the corners and how to sew them together without bunching. Are there ways to trim the corners before sewing and if so where might I find a pattern or books on this subject. I have Valrie Michaels book but it does not address this matter.
