Buckle For Double Sided Belt

Recommended Posts

I'm considering making a double sided belt. Intricate carving on one side and fairly 'dressy' simple but unique pattern on the other side. What kind of buckle could I use to avoid having to switch buckles? This will be my first belt so I'd appreciate any tips in planning this thing and thinking it all the way through. Thanks.

The way I see that comes to mind immediately is use chicago screws to hold the buckle on. Then you just unscrew them, flip the buckle to the other side and wear it. You'll just need to line it completely so there isn't raw leather showing on the flip. Cheryl

You can get reversible belt buckles, they simply swivel around to the otherside. Here is a link http://www.thebeltwholesale.com/wholesale_pin_buckle_reversible_buckle_lot-c-1_123.html the second and third listing are reversible buckles. If you do a search for reversible belt buckles you will find more.

Thanks for the suggestion cr. I've been thinking about Cheryl's suggestion about lining the belt completely. Would it be best to use 3 oz leather with essentially 3 layers glued together? Do the carving on each of the 'sides' individually then glue them (maybe adding rivets) to a central liner?

Thanks again for suggestions.

Sabine I think two layers of 4/5 oz would be fine. Or you could do 7/8 oz veg tanned and a lovely tooling pig as the liner, and tool your design on that. I have some of that it and it so soft and drapery. Just nice to the touch. I don't see a purpose for a middle layer. Cheryl
