Members Morthwyl Posted September 28, 2014 Members Report Posted September 28, 2014 Hi, I’m new here and have never worked on leather before but am interested learning some dyeing skills. I’m planning on buying some tan brogue boots and dying them in a chocolate and aubergine colour scheme (see pictures). Any recommendations on which dye products to use and how to do this would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Quote
electrathon Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 First off, I recommend buying the color you want, dying can be risky. But, if I was going to dye them I would use Fiebings dye, you need to dilute it with denatured or isopropyl alcohol. Scrub the boots with deglazed first, then wipe them with dye, applied with Sheep wool. After the dye dries wipe the boots with a layer of néet foot oil. Then a layer of your favorite shoe cream. You may not be happy with the results, just be ready for that. Aaron Quote
Members Troy Burch Posted September 29, 2014 Members Report Posted September 29, 2014 I've dyed new grey boots brown and a blue pair black and they came out looking like they were bought that way. Use the oil dye, Tandy sells it and it says on the bottle can be used for boots. I deglaze them first, (do a really good job on the deglazing). After their dry dye them, let dry, buffem real good and dye them again dry buff again put on clear finish. Quote
