caroleb13 Report post Posted October 3, 2014 Can anyone help to sort this out ? I'm really confused about the real difference between the 794, 7x3 and the 328 needle systems. From what I understand the different manufacturers have the same system but the variable very slight different lengths of the needles can damage your machine. My machine is the Global WF 9205 which is a copy of the Durkopp Adler 205. The 9205 uses the 794 system. It is very difficult to find the needles in packets of 10 and in different sizes / points. I have found the sizes with the LR point but can only find the 328 with a round point. I was told that it is not interchangeable and that adjustments need to be made to the machine. Can't do that everytime I start a new job. Apparently the 328 singer needles are slightly shorter/longer (?) than schmetz or Groz Beckert (or should I say Going Bezerk). I would be happy to just stick to the 794 system but have to buy 100 needles at a time instead of 10. At 70 euros a time x 4 different sizes that's a lot of dollars... Would anyone be willing to sell a selection of the 794 in P, S, LL, R in sizes 130 to 230 ?
Constabulary Report post Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) The 794 is longer than the 328. 7x3 is just a different nomenclature for the 794 needle wit a round point tip, the7x2 needle has a leather tip. In case your machine is setup for 794 needles and you want to use 328 needles you have to lower the needle bar (if is possible at your machine but I think so). I think you should use just one needles system. I´d choose the one with the widest range of available needles sizes and tips but that of course depends on your dealer. Not sure where you are located but College Sewing in the UK has a lot of different 794 needles https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/catalog/search.aspx?keywords=794 and 328 needles https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/catalog/search.aspx?keywords=328 You probably have to refine the search at SERACH IN: and then choose NEEEDLES But I think one of the dealers who have banners on top of the page will have them both in stock as well. Wizcrafts Report post Posted October 3, 2014 Carol; You can buy type 794 and 7x3 in packages of ten needles from dealers who's banners appear on top of our pages. They can mail them anywhere in the World. It will be a lot cheaper than buying 100 needles in .EU. You can also buy them on eBay, from sellers in .EU. caroleb13 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Thanks Wizcrafts and Constabulary I did look at the banner advertisers' shopping area but didn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I will email them, you never know. Thanks for the explanations concerning the 7x3 and 7x2. Another new thing I learnt today ! and Yes, definitely I'm in agreement, I need to stick with one system. I'm not very good or patient when it comes to fiddling with nuts and bolts (but very patient with knots and needles). I'm located in France, but it's six of one wherever you buy nowadays. Shipment from the USA sometimes is quicker than the UK, depending. Shipment from Asia must come by boat
Constabulary Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Since you are from France, please keep in mind that you probably have to deal with the customs when you order from the US and you have to pay EU taxes and custom fees. College sewing is located in Great Britain and since GB is member of the European Union you don't have to pay taxes and custom fees. I had good experiences with College Sewing, all order have arrived within 5-6 days. And my next order will be in the pipe very soon.
caroleb13 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Yes. When I order from the US I usually count the price of dollars as if it was euros. The difference in the exchange rate usually covers customs duties, VAT and transport. As I have an EORI number, even if the amount is less than 150 euros I still have to pay all the taxes.... Yes, I found the range of 794 needles with the LR point I needed at Advance Enterprises in the UK who were really helpful. They're still looking for the round points and I have about 30 horseblankets to repair, winter's coming and I really need them ! I'm going to phone College Sewing on Monday. I didn't come across them before when I googled the problem. Thanks for the tip. By the way, your English is really good (if you're german), no excuses if an expat ! Constabulary Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Yes, I´m German. Sometimes my fingers are faster than my brain so I often mistype "things" which I often enough notice too late. But thanks for the compliment But I also would bet that you are not a French native, right? College Sewing is great, you also can open an account and order online. The shop is not intuitive sometimes and sometimes you rather find items when you enter a search word instead of going through the categories. But I like them very much and sometimes it is even cheaper for me to order in the UK than in Germany. A bit strange but true.

Darren Brosowski Report post Posted October 12, 2014 LOL, the Asians ship by air and I often get parts faster out of Asia than I can from Australian suppliers.
