Members thefanninator Posted October 5, 2014 Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) I had a small piece of gator just sitting around. I glued it to a piece of calf skin from Springfield. Cut it out, stitched it and painted the edges. It needed a shine so I used Fiebings yellow soap and buffed it. Not sure if it's supposed to be used on gator but it looks much better. Darkened a little and shined up nice. You can see the original color and a few other projects I did with this gator skin here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=53554 Edited October 5, 2014 by thefanninator Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 5, 2014 Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 Sweet! How are you going to close it? I want some alligator, too! Quote
Members thefanninator Posted October 5, 2014 Author Members Report Posted October 5, 2014 Not sure yet. Had a few ideas. I thought about punching holes and putting a thin shoelace in to tie it up. Too late now but a thin metal strip between the calfskin and gator could have helped close it by bending it around the wrist. Might have to just stitch on a few other pieces with a buckle. Quote
Members silverbullet Posted October 6, 2014 Members Report Posted October 6, 2014 As strong as the thin magnets they sell now I think they would be good for these. Strip magnet real thin sewn in and a sheet metal strip in the other side . Anyone ever try it I'm thinking on trying but haven't yet . Gary Quote
