How Are Embossing Plates Made?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I have been toying around with making custom stamps. I know that magnesium setups are used. But I am wondering how the polyurethane embossing plates/stamps are being made. I have considered Cnc engraving/routing machines but seems like there is a simpler way they are being made. Its way out of my department but I am curious how it is done.

I have a few and I belive they are cast so you have to have at least one really good model.

The resin mix is the secret and the makers of those are pretty tight lipped about it.

Kinda what I figured. I am betting the molds are being made on cnc machines. Interesting process

eransh10, that would be photo-engraving, an etching process. A resist is photographically applied to the base metal used, then acid etched to remove the background material. Makes nice clean images, but no 3D effect.
