9tpi Report post Posted October 11, 2014 Hello All First time posting my work on here. First try at a gusseted brief, saddle stitched. Made with tandy "Meza" double shoulder leather. This stuff is not too bad to work with. Lots of structure when used right but does not feel stiff. I wanted to use this for my first brief as it is 1/3 the cost of W&C bridle. Being my first case, there a many things i'll do different next time. Keeping my awl straight when pushing through two layers of 7 oz leather, making cleaner stops and starts when i run out of thread and adding a lining with some pockets will be all rectified on the next case. Thanks

Well done Where did you get the brass that goes from handle to case? Thanks
ramrod Report post Posted October 13, 2014 you did a great job on this one! very well designed. nice proportions. but.......we need some interior pictures. i like the hardware on the handle. it looks like chrome in the pictures, but the strap hardware is brass. can you clear this up? and also, what are the dimensions of the case? Thanks ramrod. In person both pieces of hardware have polished silver finish. I'm not sure what the base metal is... The case size is roughly 16.5''x12''x4.5'' Nice, very nice. I have made a couple of briefcases and this makes mine look, well, like I need to raise the bar. Very clean, crisp. Well done Where did you get the brass that goes from handle to case? Thanks Thank you! Wish i could say the handle hardware was from small Parisian shop... however it's a Tandy product!
billybopp Report post Posted October 14, 2014 I think the confusion on the hardware may be due to the color balance in the first picture. It's off toward yellow and hence makes the hardware look more like brass than chrome/nickel. Bill

9tpi Report post Posted October 15, 2014 i am not familiar with the tandy meza. is it veg tan pre dyed? it looks like a nice skin. Yah it's veg tanned with a waxy top dressing, a lot like english bridle, if i didn't know better. It has a bit of pull-up too.

9tpi Report post Posted October 16, 2014 GREAT LOOKING CASE !!! WHERE DID YOU GET THE PATTERN ? LOVE TO SEE THE INSIDE. Thanks ! No pattern. A sketch on a napkin, knife and a ruler. I like the design process a lot so I try to not use patterns. The inside is unlined. Just two vacant compartments; nothing to really show.

9tpi Report post Posted October 18, 2014 I like this briefcase too ! I guess I need to experience one for myself, Nice work ! --------------------- Wild Bill46 Thanks Bill! I enjoyed it a lot. The hardest part is holding the case while you sew. In some spots my head had to be upside down to get the right angle of attack hah!
