I have this gentleman who want a cross draw for a Sig X5 competition. I have never attempted to make a cross draw and was wondering what the best angle is to have the gun sit at. He wants a pancake with a thumbbreak. Thanks for the advice.

30 degrees is the most and 20 is about minimum.

May I suggest you convince him to get an Avenger style. You will find the pancake does not lend itself to appendix or cross draw construction. The difficulty is providing good access to the grip. Build the Avenger style with the belt loop in front of the gun leaving the back loop on the back of the holster and the grip area free of obstruction.

I do cross draw pancakes up to 25 degrees.

Cross draw Avengers up to 45 degrees.

With a pancake the distance between belt slots will grow with the angle making the holster wider across.

I still use the ear with belt slot for my cross draw Avengers and have had no issues. Just make sure you have enough room for a good grip.

I've attached a pic of one of my pancakes for a Ruger LC9. Hope it helps.

I have made a holster for this guy in the past and after he complained about it for weeks and I remade it twice I told my self I would not make him anything else not worth the aggravation. I bid the holster WAY higher than I Normally would have. Well it kind of back fired on me and he agreed on the price.

I'll second the Avenger take on the cross draw. Just finished my 3rd one for the S&W 500. That's a huge gun and the avenger anchors it solid to the belt.
