JDRass Report post Posted December 26, 2014 My first pair of leather hobbles. Any criticism or advise would be great
MonicaJacobson Report post Posted December 26, 2014 I don't really know a thing about horse tack... but as a leatherworking project - it's a little rough around the edges, but overall, it's very attractive and rather awesome.
oltoot Report post Posted December 26, 2014 Having used this style a lot I offer: Shorten up the buckle end as close as you can so that, in use, the billet end is pointed back along the middle and not sticking out in the wind to drag and catch on things. Buckaroo19 Report post Posted January 2, 2015 Wow, For your first set od hobbles they look great, especially the tooling. Is that hand stitched? And if you don't mind me asking were did you get the pattern for those?
JDRass Report post Posted January 3, 2015 Thank you guys for the advice. Will definitely work on it with the next set. Buckaroo 19 The pattern I used is from some old papers that a friend gave me when I decided to do leather work. I believe its from Chan Geer. The hobbles aren't hand stitched I got a machine a year ago. It is what got me into leather work actually.
Buckaroo19 Report post Posted January 3, 2015 I did a search on google for hobble patterns and couldn't find any. Is there any way you could email me the pattern?
JDRass Report post Posted January 3, 2015 Buckaroo, I thought you were asking about the tooling pattern. The pattern for the hobbles I used an old pair that I've had for years and just made an outline on some graph paper. I will see if I saved it and try to scan it and send it to you.
