Members gavingear Posted November 9, 2008 Members Report Posted November 9, 2008 Recently, I posted regarding the 1st holster that I designed and constructed for my S&W 629 44 Magnum: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5911 That was a fun project, but holster making is a learning process, and a fun one at that. So I took the lessons learned, and applied that towards my 2nd holster design and construction project, similar, but this time for my 6" Ruger GP-100 357 magnum. Specifically, here's a few things I did differently: 1. Uncovered rear sight 2. Scrapped the reinforcement strap at the opening 3. Changed angle of gun (less forward cant), made belt slots longer and wider 4. Formed the holster to fit the user's side curvature during the wet forming process 5. Added grooves (with stitch grooving tool) around perimeter where stitches do not exist as detail item 6. Went with open muzzle design, widened certain locations for proper allowances Overall, I'm very pleased with the design and construction this time. It wears very nice! Members twofour878 Posted November 10, 2008 Members Report Posted November 10, 2008 Looks very nice. I've always kind of wished it was easier to get a hangun in Canada so I could make some holsters for myself. Why did you get rid of the reinforcement? Quote
Members WaG35 Posted November 10, 2008 Members Report Posted November 10, 2008 That is a very nice looking holster. Good job. Quote

Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted November 12, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted November 12, 2008 Very nice job molding to the pistol, and clean stitching. Good job! I advise considering a retention strap to the design. .44's aren't exactly CCW pistols, not fast draw rigs ( too heavy), so the presumed purpose is either a range hoster or a field holster. Both would benefit from having a retention strap, but especially if it's a field holster. Quote
