Members TooledByML Posted January 17, 2015 Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 I have just finished making a pouch for a Rolls Razor blade. Depending on what part of the world you are in you may not have heard of these razors. Have a quick search on google and have a look. These razors were ingenious things because the box they came in also contained a clever mechanism to sharpen and strop them at the correct angle so you always had, well, a razor sharp blade. Great for cutting my leather although you do have to remove the guard. The pouch was made because I wanted it close to hand but I didn't want to keep putting it back in its box. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted January 17, 2015 Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 I know them, they have these "flip back and forth thing" for sharpening, right? Are you still using the Rolls razor? Off Topic - but a very cool razor also is the SCHICK Magazine repeating razor - I´m lucky to own one of them. Quote
Members TooledByML Posted January 17, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 Yes they're the ones. I have used the razor for shaving but I collected old razors for a while and I tend to stick to the same one these days. I will do a google for the SCHICK. Quote
Members TooledByML Posted January 17, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 Oh I like them. I may have to get one. Or two. Quote
Members humperdingle Posted January 17, 2015 Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 I use a Merkur 34c with Feather blades these days... lovely shave Did I read the OP correctly? You use the razor to cut leather? If so, what's the technique? Quote
Members TooledByML Posted January 17, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 Not for carving but for cutting the leather to size, mainly along a metal rule. Goes through it like butter. Quote
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted January 17, 2015 Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 I just bought a Rhodium plated Gillette Executive in an ostrich leather travel case at the thrift store yesterday. They were only made in 1949-50 from what I have researched so far. Quote
Members TooledByML Posted January 17, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 17, 2015 I do like a nice case. My Rolls came in it's original box with instructions Quote
