Members Gregspitz Posted January 20, 2015 Members Report Posted January 20, 2015 making a custom watch strap with an odd size and it tapers. had a pattern made and cut it out in light cardboard.. since I use dies mostly...should I trace around the pattern with a pen and cut it out...keep the pattern on the leather when I do it..cut directly around the pattern.. any help would be appreciated.. thanks Quote
NVLeatherWorx Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 I trace around my pattern with it placed on the grain side and using a scratch awl. Just make sure that your trace line remains around the outer edge of the pattern because there are several times when people find that the awl (or whatever they are tracing with) shifts the pattern or even gets underneath it a bit. If you use a pen then I would place the template on the flesh side and carefully trace the outline then. Quote
Members Gregspitz Posted January 21, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 21, 2015 Thanks. Here is how it came out. No holes yet as customer wants to tell me where to put them! http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q512/gregspitz/Mobile%20Uploads/FC1B9CCE-21D0-45A5-A9BF-72209A86524F.jpg Quote
NVLeatherWorx Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Looks like it turned out pretty nice. How much do you sell these for? Quote
Members JanC Posted January 22, 2015 Members Report Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) That looks great. Any photos of the underside? How thick is the leather? Edited January 22, 2015 by JanC Quote
