Please Help Before I Have A Consew Shaped Hole In My Window?

Recommended Posts

I've searched high and low... i even sent the machine to a repair man but to no avail....

I bought a consew 225 a few years ago - it worked OK... it had temper tantrums from time to time but generally Ok. I took a break from sewing as I worked on some other projects for a couple of years and now have a leather upholstery project to tackle.

I'm using the same thread & needles as before the break - T-210 with 140/22 needles which used to work well but i'm either getting loops around the bobbin case so it jams up after 4 or 5 stitches or huge, ugly loops of top thread under the work. Normally i'd assume it was due to low top tension but even fully cranked on I get the same problem.

Please tell me I'm doing something dumb and this is an easy fix? This is driving me insane. groove on the needle is facing left - bobbin thread coming off the side nearest to you from left to right (but tried the other way too) and machine is threaded correctly - at least the same way i used to thread it when it used to work!

Thanks,

Tom

Your machine is not made to sew with the 207 thread. You should try 138 as the largest size and a #92 will also work. That should work. Good luck.

I had a similar problem with my Janome/New Home machine after it was unused for 18 months to 2 years. Fortunately a neighbour's sister was a professional dressmaker, and when she visited she identified & solved the problem in about two minutes

It seems that I had been using my needles too much and even though they looked & felt sharp they had become slightly blunt. Fitted some from a new unopened packet and everything was fine

Well, I`m sometimes using 207 (T210) in my Singer 111 w/o problems but with a 160 needle. But as Geneva said usually 138 thread is working best with this type of machine

When it already had some "temper tantrums" as you say then there is probably something wrong.

Have you checked the timing of the needle + hook? Is the machine correctly threaded (top + bottom)? Have you checked the tension on the bobbin case?

Is the needle scarf or the grove facing right? Is it facing straight right or has it a bit of an angle?

thanks for the replies!

I did a complete overhaul on it today - set the timing of needle and hook, feed dog and eccentric. It's running a lot better now but still likes to look awful underneath the workpiece at the start of a run. Once going, it's sewing pretty well although the tension isn't as consistent as it needs to be. I think i'll put a new bobbin case in and maybe replace the upper tension discs in case that makes any difference.

The one thing I did notice was that I think I'm missing a threading component although I've seen pictures and videos without it,,. Before passing through the eye from left to right, I think the thread is meant to pass through something at the top of the needle. I ordered the part but it doesn't seem to fit with the way I have my needlebar configured (the way I bought it) Could someone please post a close up picture of this piece if you have one please and if anyone could cast an opinion as to whether that could be causing the problems above - that would be awesome.

Appreciate all the help!

T

Anything less than an open frame shuttle can only handle #138 tops. #207 on the top side is ok with a 25 or 26 needle but you are pushing it.

I have a Consew 227 R-2 which was set-up great by Nick-O-sew and it will not sew even 138 thread with a 22 needle, it may not be your main issue, but I would try a larger needle for the 207 thread you are using... Probably at least a #25

Have you stopped trying to sew with the 207 thread?

You could have a new machine and try to sew with the 207 and it will do the same thing. It is not designed to use the 207 thread.

It makes no difference what part you replace the machine it will not sew beyond its capabilities.

A thousand apologies You can use what ever thread you choose for your machine.

it's ok... i have an order in for the correct thread....

Thank you to everyone for all your help - i'm hoping that if/when i get back to my house after travelling this week, i'll have lots of packages on my doorstep - including the correct thread and a servo motor. I'll let you all know how i get on.

It's already night and day better than it was - with new toys and the right materials - here's hoping she's like a new machine
