My Seiko Sk-6 (Singer 45K) Mods

Recommended Posts

I've put an Enduro 1hp motor on it, and am very pleased.

Put the 2" pulley and am pleased with that.

Ordered a 10" machine pulley, bushing to get it to 15mm +/-, and a steering wheel spinner to mod into a hand wheel. Don't have them yet.

If all works out, I will have a machine that can go from 20rpm to 1000rpm.

Ordered a few assorted ten packs of needles. It had a lot of thread included.

Ordered a 10 pack of bobbins.

Wondering,

What are common wear items on a machine like this? I'd like to keep them on hand.

Anyone got some scrap Veg. Leather for practicing on?

Need to find an affordable (yea, good luck) bobbin/hook complete assembly.

Going to add lighting to the table.

I have a Singer 133K3 (cylinder bed version of your Seiko SK-6) from 1932 (I restored it) and I have not replaced a single part except the thread regulating spring + the foot lifter (was still good but the spare one I had was better). These are really tough built machines and are long lasting as it seems. Mine runs very nice smooth. Maybe you are interested:

Your Seiko SK-6 is a clone of the Singer 132K and not the 45K. I think feed dog, feed dog screws, smaller screws and springs are good to have parts.

If you cant find parts in the US check out College Sewing in the UK but look for 132K parts.

The Seiko machines are probably better quality than the Singer machines!

Even better news is that every wear part is still in production so this machine can be kept running for at least 100 years.

The secret to looking after machines is to keep them clean and well oiled. Check the linkages for wear and tighten them up as required. Bonded nylon will wear through the upper thread path so use a more sympathetic thread such as bonded polyester or high tenacity polyester (Serafil).
