Members Dr Shoe Posted February 28, 2015 Members Report Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) My name is Tara and I'm just about to restart my shoe making hobby. I haven't so much as stitched a piece of leather for 18 years since I was a student at Cordwainers College in London. It's always been a case of either having the chance of a sewing machine and nowhere to put it or somewhere to work and no sewing machine (I'm too lazy to handsew! LOL). Now, at last, I have both. I have access to an upholstery machine and both a leather patcher and a pair of lasts on their way and somewhere to work. I have now accumulated a large pile of leather in various colours and just need the tools and all the other bits and pieces! I also have access to two laser cutters (a small hobby machine and a large commercial cutter), a couple of 3D printers, metal working lathe, electric scroll saw and a bandsaw, piller drill, milling machine, vinyl cutter and just about any tool you can think of. I can even cast aluminium (note spelling LOL)! Look out for some interesting designs! Edited February 28, 2015 by Dr Shoe Quote

Northmount Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 I want your shop ... and all the tools! Jealous! Tom Quote
Members Dr Shoe Posted March 1, 2015 Author Members Report Posted March 1, 2015 It's not my shop. I am a member of a self help group called Hackspace. Many of the tools are owned by other members but some are bought from club funds such as the large laser cutter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackerspace I think there are similar organisations in the US too. Members cgleathercraft Posted March 2, 2015 Members Report Posted March 2, 2015 Almost every major city in the states has a hackerspace of some kind. The best of them have the capabilities of software to hardware, forging to finishing, and prototype to finished product. haven't been to one yet but have heard that they are pretty friendly and someone is always willing to lend a hand.
