Thread Breakage

Recommended Posts

So I'm getting quite frustrated, I have a Durkopp Adler 467 and I'm attempting to sew a briefcase handle (two pieces of 4oz dyed vegetan) and the damn top thread keeps breaking when I reverse. Sometimes it'll make one or two reverse stitches and then it breaks. The tension seems crazy high as I can barely pull the thread through by hand but if I set it any lower I end up with a Mess of thread at the bottom of the piece. I'm using 207 bonded nylon thread.

The tension on the bobin thread seems fine as I can easily slide it out by hand. It only seems to be doing it on these pieces of leather. Everything else I try it seems to work, though my reverse stitches always pull the thread through on the bottom.

Help?

Stu

Check if the needle scarf is facing straight right and has no angle and if the needle / hook timing is correct. Maybe you have to lower the needle bar tiny bit. Try a new needle or a needle one size bigger. Thats at least something I´d try.

I've got exactly the same problem on my Juki dnu-1541. When you sew straight everything is fine, however when I reverse the thread is breaks.

Check the motion of the feed dog relative to the needle and inside foot. It might need tweaking to move in sync in both directions. They have an adjustment somewhere that allows the feed dog to move at a different rate then the top. This is used to ruffle drapes and garments.
