biker55 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 Hello all, is there a way of stiffening leather besides doubling it? thanks
silverwingit Report post Posted June 4, 2015 Wet-formed leather stiffens. That's how many makers stiffen their armor. Veg-tanned leather from 5-6 oz. up will stiffen so that you can rap it with your knuckle. Search for wet-forming here or on Youtube. Or, you can buy sole leather. It's stiff and tough as nails. You know that because you probably have some on some of your shoes. I don't know if it is wet-formable into arbitrary shapes, so your answer is likely application-dependent. Sluggo001 Report post Posted June 5, 2015 If you want stiff- like wood. You can harden it with wax. It's tricky though.

billybopp Report post Posted June 7, 2015 You might take a look at cuir boulli, or boiled leather if you want really stiff. There are several threads on here, and elsewhere. Bill
