New Member Looking For A Suggestion For My Head Knife

Recommended Posts

Hello, I started tooling back in the early late 60s collecting some stamps from Tandy making a few things. When my number got called. Anyway after all was said and done i went back to making plain leather bags and cases. All in all i didnt put much effort into learning tooling until recently when I got to browsing this forum and others i was hooked. Ive tooled a few purses the Stohlman style then ran across the Sheridan tooling. it hit me like a box of bricks couldnt believe the art is so beautiful. Anyway ive collected more tools geared toward Sheridan including a head knife from Tandy. I dont know why i didnt get one sooner. I would like to make a sheath for it ive got some ideas but was hoping to introduce myself and se if you have some suggestions. Its a 4 incher. I have also purchased Bill Gardners book and Chan Geers.

Happy. Fourth

John

JM,I currently use a rotary cutter. I only wish I had a suggestion on a sheath for a head knife.

Enjoy your crafting, most important is be safe.

All i ever needed were some leather shears until recently. I have used a rotary cutter. with the 8 oz leather and up i needed something a little more durable.

Do a search here for sheath and head or round knife. There are several threads with lots of photos to give you some really good ideas.

Always use a welt. Only half the sheath needs to be open, so you twist the knife out of the pocket. So only one closure strap needed.

No excuse necessary. Always happy to hear from new members and long timers too. And I should have said, Welcome to the forum!

Search on Google and YouTube for 'making a knife sheath' and 'round knife sheath', there are lots of references and illustrations.

You can use the sheath making techniques, but the sheath for a round knife is usually more like a simple blade cover, you may well be able to manage without a strap. Just a front and a back, with about 1/2" border for the stitching & welt
