AnnaG Report post Posted July 15, 2015 I am honestly, completely lost here. I'm looking for some good quality, not plated (in my experience anything plated will start flaking and going straight off a cliff within a few weeks of regular use), hardware for general things like leashes, collars, maybe handbag straps. If the planets align, such hardware exists in the US. I've been Googling and searching the forums diligently but there's just so many...found several places in the UK but the shipping would eat me alive there. If anyone has the time, I'd greatly appreciate any leads or mentions of favorite hardware houses. I'm also looking for really tiny hardware, like buckles that would fit on a Chihuahua sized dog harness.
AnnaG Report post Posted July 15, 2015 Thinking about it, I wonder if some quality watch buckles would be suitable for toy breed dog tack? Hm.
mustangman2 Report post Posted July 15, 2015 Have you tried the buckle guy. I have had good luck with him.

chrstn53 Report post Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) As mentioned above the buckle guy is great especially for small buckles and button studs. For my leashes and collars I get all of my hardware from weaver leather in either solid brass or stainless steel. I've heard good things about Ohio Travel Bag, but I have never used them. Stay away from Tandy's hardware... Tandy has some good stuff but markup is pretty horrendous. Edited July 16, 2015 by chrstn53
TomG Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Ohio Travel Bag is my go-to place. I wouldn't use the watch strap bands. That removable pin in the ones I have won't hold a whole lot of sudden impact like a dog tugging a leash, IMHO...
Art Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Ohio Travel Bag Catalog We call them OTB for short. Art
Fordpkup Report post Posted July 22, 2015 Can you order from OTB online? I looked at the OTB site and didn't find a way to order, other than phone.
TomG Report post Posted July 22, 2015 Yes. But you have to have an account before you can see the order system. It's not your standard on-line shopping cart system. You have to have your item numbers to put in or you can look up items. I generally open a catalog on one screen and the order screen on another and Ctrl-Tab between the 2. So, if I am ordering say C-54 buckle, and type that into the Item lookup box, it will show me all items with that and I can select the ones I want, one at a time. Not the most efficient way, but it works. And they are great to work with.
Art Report post Posted July 22, 2015 As Tom said about the online order system, it is how should we say, uncomfortable. It is a lot easier on big orders to just email them and have them confirm, it keeps the data from being entered two or three times. You should really give them a call. Product knowledge is extremely high, and if you have really technical questions there are folks there who have forgotten more than most companies in the business know. Quality and service are really #1 at OTB. At one time, they made their own luggage handles and leather parts; I don't know if they still do, but they do know leatherwork and are not just a parts house. jackieotb Report post Posted July 29, 2015 Hi friends...sorry I was out of town for a few days. Thank you for the referrals in this feed. I definitely agree that our online shopping experience has a lot to be desired. We are working very hard, preparing to launch our new E-Commerce site on November 1st. It will dramatically change our business :-). Anna G...we definitely have some appropriate smaller hardware that is solid brass nickel, but everything is plated, because it will rust if it is not. We have imported some "raw" hardware in the past, but it will come with oil on it (which you really don't want to deal with). If you can work with us and find some pieces you are interested in, we can check with our supplier to see what kind of plating is on it. There are levels of plating. You may want to pay up for hardware that is 1. sandcasted, then 2. polished, then 3. lacquered. 90% of the hardware available to you from us and our competitors is imported, however OTB stocks over 10,000 items for same-day shipping. I would also be happy to send you some free samples. Here is the link to our online catalog. http://www.ohiotravelbag.com/PDF/P-214_Hardware-Finished_Goods_Catalog-web.pdf We are also adding hundreds of new items, in preparation for our new catalog and website. If you let me know what you need I can go through our new parts and find some solutions. Please call or email me, jackie@ohiotravelbag.com, 800-800-1941 ext.116. I am confident that you will not find another company willing to provide you better personal service than OTB (and me)! You can order online...just a little challenging and we are sorry about that. Let me know if I can walk you through it; set up an account if needed, etc. You can always call here and talk to real live, pleasant person too. 800-800-1941
