Members Colt W Knight Posted August 1, 2015 Members Report Posted August 1, 2015 I thought they did that to make sliding the holster onto the belt easier. Quote
Members BHPshooter Posted August 1, 2015 Members Report Posted August 1, 2015 It must be an aesthetic preference. I doubt there is any functional advantage to curved belt slots. Quote
Members byggyns Posted August 13, 2015 Members Report Posted August 13, 2015 The only time I've seen a curved slot serve a functional purpose was on a 3 slot pancake holster I bought before I started leatherworking. The front slot was curved so that there wouldn't be any binding from using either of the rear 2 slots: either vertical or the 20 degree cant positions. This could probably be accomplished by just making a slightly larger front slot, but this way the slot stayed smaller and more snug on the belt, yet was able to accommodate either position. Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted August 13, 2015 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 13, 2015 Straight slot will do that, Boss. Assuming your slots are 5 1/2" apart (give er take a bit), that 20° is only a difference of 1 3/4" -ish, and doesn't require a longer slot (the difference in slot length is LESS than you would take out with an edger). I'm going with the reason for the curved slot is 2-fold... cosmetics (appearance only) compounded with a marketing goober telling you how important it is to have it that way. Or, other words, no value. Quote "Observation is 9/10 of the law." IF what you do is something that ANYBODY can do, then don't be surprised when ANYBODY does.

Members renegadelizard Posted August 21, 2015 Members Report Posted August 21, 2015 I agree, its just bling...one of the worst hosters i have ever been forced to use, had those slots in it...it was done to acommodate a third slot and to get it all to fit, the slots were so close to the stitch line and crammed together, that it was impossible to reholster the gun without it going out of battery...
