Josh Ashman Report post Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Hey JLS, I run all the rivets through the main belt. The main belt keeper is riveted in place, although you can't see the front of the rivets as they are under the piece that hols the buckle, I think people call it a chap, maybe? Anyway, that's how I do it. I've seen them done lots of different ways, as long as it works, it's good. I about went into why I like this set up but it involves descriptions like "floppy", "rigid" and "firm" in reference to where you buckle a belt and this is a family site After posting this I re-read your question and I think I understand it better now. The billet end does not go through the main belt when you put it on. So, yes, it does go on just like a ranger type belt! Did you fold that over the buckle and rivet it (like I generally think of a "chape"), or did you put a slot in the wider belt, and run the "chape" through it? I "lifted" the flower and most of the vine from a Tandy pattern they send out with one of their wallet kits. Here's a pic that shows it a little better. Hopefully I made sense this time! On Josh's belt, the chape is only fastened to the belt at the two rivets (that bracket his maker's mark) and the stitch lines. The keeper on the chape is for the billet and the keeper on the gunbelt proper is for the billet end of the gunbelt. The two rivets hiding under the edge of his buckle are just for the buckle. At least, that is how I am seeing Josh's belt. Mine is just a poor copy that I had to finish in time for last month's shoot.
