Clean Belt Holes

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I just made a bridle leather belt and everything came out perfectly except for my holes. I used a punch I use on every other leather with good results but the holes were just butt ugly. Does anyone know of a good sharp, clean cutting punch for bridle leather. I'm looking for a clean cut belt hole, not a punched look.

Is the leather thicker than the previous leathers you used?

Im interested in finding out too.

My guess would be to find a punch with the bevel on the inside perimeter.

Like gmace said your punch may need to be sharpened. If the problem is a fuzzy cut on the backside of the hole try backing your piece with a firm piece of scrap leather.

A sharp punch will help moving forward. For this project you can burn off the fuzzies or wrap something small like a toothpick with 80-120 grit sandpaper and smooth out the area.
