Howdy folks,

I'm sure some of you have done this or come across it in the past.

I have a client who wants me to make a few knife sheaths with the flesh side out to get it a rough look. My only problem is I'm worried about it fading with sun and rain exposure.

So, how would I go about protecting it? Would I apply a few coats of leather sheen or gum trag or resolene? Or do I just leave it as is?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Blue Skies,

Seems to me that if he wants a "rough look" then leave it as is, so that it will gradually acquire a nice used look about it.

Agree with dikman

Try a few finishes to see what you get. Rough-out will age nicely with use. Sun and rain will only cause an issue if it's never used and just laying around outside.
