Oil runing Down Needle

Have a 618 Artisan.

Have not used it for a year.

Wiped the oil off the needle and sewed about 4 Ft.

Oil would come back every 6 in or so.

Now doing 3-4 in , wipe off and about 2 in the oil is back.

What can be done to keep the oil off the leather?

Lubing with Neetsfoot oil not an option.

Place a scrap of absorbant cloth under the foot when the machine is not in use. I suppose the obvious is also avoid over oiling.

Take the thread out of the needle and run the machine for 10 to 20 mins. You should force out the excess oil. Just wipe it up and you should be good to go with no damage to any more leather. It might take a little less time or a little more depending on how much you over oiled it. You won't hurt the machine one bit by running it.

It sat for year or more and didn't oil it for small job.

I was woried about running without oiling again.

Must be a hole in a casting holding the oil.

Will try running it to sling the oil out.

Luke, You certainly are correct. The first time I oiled my Toro 3000, I over did it. The same think happened to me.
