Heat In My Shop

Good afternoon,

Todays high was only 98 degrees so winter is on its way.

I'am going to install a NG direct vent heater in my shop before this winter, and was wondering what others used for winter heating. Also, what temperature do you like when working? I like 50-55 degrees when working in the shop. I just want a little comfort in my old age. I live in the upper Mojave Desert in California and the winters here sometimes get down to the high teens, but mostly in the 30s and 40s. I spend about 6 to 8 hours in my shop each day doing woodworking, leatherwork, and fixing things, but nothing heavy or big.

You would most likely love the temperature for-casted for today here in N.W. Georgia. high 72*-low 52*

My comfort zone is between high 82*-low 65*

Thus; there is where I keep my warm comfortable heat set at. I say To each his own !

I'm thinking there is no universal heat temperature setting.

I'm in posession of an old-timey 6-brick/firedog NG heater,

I will use this heater for as long as it lasts, I've had it nearly 30-35 years now and I love it !

I installed a 7500 BTU electric heater in our shop two years ago that mounts on the ceiling. It has a thermostat inside, I wanted an exterior to use with it but didn't find a good one that would handle 40 Amps. I have a timer for it.

We spend 14 or 15 hours per day 7 days a week from October through most of January in the shop. We have about six folks working a portion of each day. Machinery running warms the shop above 80 degrees until our weather gets real cold.

Heater has a blower. I set it so it maintains about 65 to 70 degrees while we are working.

Shop contains about 3500 sq. ft. with 12' ceilings.

I have a small wood stove in my shop. I would be sad if I couldn't build a fire and be warm.
